What to do when bitten by a dog or rabid animal and how prevent it.

Animal bite first aid.
1) You should clean the wound with soap and water. Run water over the wound for at least five minutes.
2) Control bleeding.
3) Cover the wound with a sterile dressing and bandage.
4) The victim should see a health care provider or go to the emergency department right away.
Additional Care :
- Report all animal bites to local officers or police which controls animals. The law requires certain procedures to be followed when rabies is a risk.
- An antibiotic ointment may be applied to a shallow wound before dressing it.
How to prevent animal attacks.
The centers for Disease Control and prevention offers the following advice :
- Do not approach an unfamiliar dog.
- Do not run from a dog or scream.
- Remain motionless when approached by an unfamiliar dog.
- If knocked over by a dog, roll into a ball and lie still.
- Do not allowed children to play with a dog unless supervised by an adult.
- Be aware of stray dogs or dogs displaying unusual behavior.
- Avoid direct eye contact with a dog.
- Do not disturb a dog that is sleeping, eating or caring for puppies.
- Do not pet a dog with out allowing it to see and sniff you first.
- Never leave a baby or child alone with a dog.
- Make sure your pets is socialized as a young puppy so it feels at ease around people and other animals.
- Educate children about how to act when around animals.
